Mentos Soda Eruptions Explained
Physicists have explained why Mentos and Soda eruptions occur.
It turns out that it isn't a chemical reaction at all, it's physics. The rough surface of the mentos offer a surface that allows bubbles to form quickly.
The scientists tried a number of other substances, such as salt, sand, dish washing detergent, and other brands of mint. None were as effective as the mentos.
This suggests obvious possibilities for science fair projects. You could repeat the physicist's experiments, and try other substances that you can think of yourself.
I would also recommend trying to remove the surface from the mentos with some sandpaper.
